“The Domain” is for the most part an outdoor shopping centre, complete with numerous apartment buildings, restaurants, bars and outdoor hangout areas that very often will have free live music.  It’s worth visiting because the restaurants here are great, the bars are unique, and you can get your shopping fix in the same area.  It’s also not that expensive, especially if you time it right and visit around happy hour.

  • Cru Wine Bar
    • A modern, Napa Valley style kind of wine bar that offers an assortment of American and Italian styled foods.  While the style may be Napa, Cru Wine Bar is worldly an offers an assortment of great wines that range from Rhone to closer to home in Texas Hill Country.  Try out their stone-fired pizzas, mussels or cheese dishes.
  • The Park
    • The Park was my go-to NFL watching destination for years.  It’s a lively American styled sports bar with an awesome happy hour.  Go on Sunday if you can, if football and a live DJ is your thing.  Get there around 11AM if you want a seat.  They offer $1 mimosas (yes, you heard that correctly), until 2PM.  After that, mimosas are $2.

  • Stop by “The Lawn”
    • A very new development in the Central domain area right off of Domain Drive, “The Lawn” is actually astroturf (but quite comfortable).  It’s centrally located, right next to the iPic movie theater and a multitude of shops and restaurants.  Yoga classes are also offered periodically throughout the week and are free to attend at The Lawn!  Stop by and try out some of the food trucks and listen to the live music that’s frequently offered throughout the week.  Bands range in style but are primarily Austin-based.
  • See a Movie at iPic Theater
    • As we mentioned above, iPic is right next to The Lawn area in The Domain.  iPic Theater’s are a bit more upscale, in that even the lobby itself makes you feel like you just entered some sort of high end night club.  Pool tables and an eclectic bar are present right at entry, and you can even get unlimited popcorn refills.  iPic at The Domain is very cleanly, with huge plush seats no matter where you sit in the theater.  Note that seats are cheaper closer to the screen, but keep in mind that this is an upscale theater chain, so you should expect to pay around $20 per seat, plus food & drink.  If you can afford it, you won’t regret it!
  • Shop around Century Oaks Terrace
    • Everything from high-end shopping to casual shopping is available around The Domain.  Century Oaks Terrace is the main shopping drag.  Shopping options include Macy’s, H&M, Victoria’s Secret, The Apple Store, Banana Republic, Tiffany’s, Loui Vuitton, Kate Spade, Michael Kors and many more.

  • Lone Star Court at The Domain Austin
    • Lone Star is centrally located and just a minute walk from “The Lawn.”  This is a new, boutique type property, built just a couple of years back.   The interior design and decor is fairly retro, and guests can enjoy free WiFi, HD TVs and seating areas inside the lounge / lobby.  Parking is free (which is nice because The Domain can get crowded), and your stay will include continental breakfast.  If you want to tour The Domain area, Lone Star Court also offers bikes on loan to guests.  The hotel also comes with a nice outdoor pool, gym and even outdoor fire pits.
  • Things to do at The Domain AustinAloft Austin at The Domain
    • Another boutique, but a bit more modern style than Lone Star, Aloft is located not far from The Park at The Domain.    The location in general is great as it’s very close to the main shopping area at Century Oaks.  Aloft is also an ideal spot to stay if you’re a Starwood Preferred Guest member, and is one of Starwood’s more well known properties.  Pricing is modest, and if you time it right rooms can be had for as little as $115 per night (rates around this price must be pre-paid).  The rooms themselves are nothing special, but the beds are comfortable, clean and have great air conditioning.  Guests can park for free on the property.  Continental breakfast is also offered in the morning.  Perhaps the greatest perk of all when staying at Aloft is the friendly staff.  Don’t be afraid to ask questions if there’s anything you need.
