For me, I’ve always had a strong passion for the sea. It brings on a sense of calm and inspires me to venture out into the unknown. The ocean itself offers a great analogy for seizing the moment and creating something better for the world. One of my personal favorite quotes about the ocean comes from William Shakespeare.
“There is a tide in the affairs of men, Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune. Omitted, all the voyage of their life is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat. And we must take the current when it serves, or lose our ventures.”
Learn About Beringer’s Luminus Chardonnay
This is a classic example of exemplary workmanship poured into a bottle. Right off the bat, what makes Luminus special is the terroir from whence it came.
Oak Knoll is a relatively well known, cooler-climate AVA located on the Southern end of Napa Valley that is conducive to producing refreshing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This is due to the fact that this area is located relatively close to San Pablo Bay, offering consistently cool breezes and temperatures with moderate temperature fluctuation.
The result is often refreshingly acidity, with superb balance, complexity and mineral tones in the final wine product. Did I mention this is a 92+ point wine?
Luminus Chardonnay Tasting Notes
Given the climate, you can expect refreshing citrus and tree fruit notes commonly associated with cooler climate Chardonnay. In addition, Beringer discovered a way to incorporate just the right amount of oak aging as to not overpower the refreshing fruit flavors.
The Luminus Chardonnay is aged for nine months in French Oak, with only 20% of barrel aging being within New French Oak. Given the smaller percentage of New Oak aging, this ensures that not too much of the butter and almond flavors given off by the wood will overpower the rest of the flavor components.
Expect a beautiful, medium-full bodied mouth feel and zesty texture.
Food Pairing the Luminus Chardonnay
The Luminus will pair quite nicely with heavier-bodied fish, chicken and/or pasta dishes. Consider blackened swordfish, butternut squash risotto, pasta cooked in white cream based sauces (such as alfredo) or poultry dishes with fresh grilled veggies.
This style of Chardonnay will also work well with most white meat dishes cooked with lemon or honey.
